The Ministry of the Altar Server is to provide girls and boys of St. Patrick’s Church the opportunity to serve our parish community at Mass and in that way, develop a deeper appreciation of the Eucharist and service to our Christian community.
We are currently recruiting for new altar servers. Many of our veteran servers are moving on to high school and college. We, therefore, invite families to encourage their children to participate in this very important ministry. Children who express an interest in becoming an altar server will participate in a series of training sessions with Fr. Bissex.
- Must be Catholic
- Have received First Holy Communion
- Fourth grade (as of 9/17) in school or older
- Enrollment in Catholic school is not a requirement, this is a parish-wide ministry
Training and Commissioning
Training covers the significance of the Mass and altar server responsibilities. After training, the new altar servers will be commissioned and be put on a schedule to serve Mass and other liturgical services.
Lectors proclaim the Word of God and lead the Prayer of the Faithful in the absence of the deacon at Mass and other liturgies as required. The Lector may also welcome worshipers and introduce the Mass before the liturgy and read announcements after communion. If you are gifted with a clear speaking voice, a general and prayerful understanding of the Scriptures you may consider this ministry. Lector schedules are prepared by a parish volunteer in three month blocks. Flexibility in scheduling permits ministers to volunteer for dates and Masses meeting their individual needs. Training includes introduction to the ministry at our parish, schedule process, practice with microphones and “shadowing”“an experienced minister as needed.
Sing and Sign Family Mass
9:30 AM FAMILY MASS – SING AND SIGN MINISTRY The 9:30am Family Mass “Sing and Sign Children’s Choir” is open to all children, ages four and older. The children learn to sing and interpret a religious song in sign language, and then present it to the congregation after communion. We look forward to seeing everyone again, and to welcoming new members. Please join us for rehearsals at 9:15am, near the stage, in Murray Hall (Lower Church).
